World Language Enrichment: k-5 guidelines

The Bozeman World Language Enrichment program is currently an before/after-school "exposure-based" model.

It is a partnership initiative between the Bozeman School District, Greater Gallatin United Way, the Friends of World Language parent group, as well as our elementary school parent groups.

While designed to necessarily be a path to proficiency, we support the program because exposure-models translate to a suite of benefits for our students:
  • greater academic achievement
  • increased self-esteem
  • increased creativity
  • better communication skills
  • increased likelihood in speaking additional languages
  • and greater cultural awareness
During World Language Enrichment instructional time, we currently suggest that our world language coaches follow the C’s: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities as outlined by the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages.
